Background

The Women and Work Course builds on ISST’s four-decade legacy of feminist research and advocacy on women's labor. It has focused on making unpaid, informal, and care work visible while addressing intersections with identity, caste, and patriarchy.

Launched in 2021, the program distills decades of knowledge into transformative learning for activists, practitioners, and scholars. Featuring renowned academics, it explores women's work across formal and informal sectors. Initially delivered during the pandemic, digital tools facilitated global engagement and networking. The second iteration introduced an immersive residential format, deepening discussions on care economies and state-market dynamics.

The course was anchored by experts from diverse backgrounds who have enriched the curriculum with their insights.

The third iteration adopts a two-level structure—Basic and Advanced—offering a progressive, in-depth learning experience.

ISST’s commitment to feminist research ensures that the course remains a critical space for perspective-building and knowledge exchange.
